Public Safety is Job #1
Prior to the election of Mayor Greg Ballard, Indianapolis was facing rising crime and the previous Mayor had attempted to give up any accountability for public safety by handing over the Mayor’s responsibility to the Sheriff.
Mayor Greg Ballard believes that public safety is job #1 for a Mayor and one of his first orders of business was to take back control and accountability for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Since that time, crime rates have gone down. IMPD is full of extremely hard-working, competent, civic-minded men and women who responded to the new structure and appreciate the fact that Mayor Ballard respects the work they do and honors his commitment to provide the men and women of law enforcement with the resources necessary to help them be more successful in fighting crime.
