Citizens are proud of their city, but they live in their neighborhoods
No matter where he was stationed in the Marine Corps (1978-2001), Greg Ballard was always proud to call Indianapolis “home.” We’re a big city with a close-knit Hoosier feel and we take pride in our sports and cultural attractions that are the result of decades of vision by city and community leaders.
A great city is a collection of great neighborhoods. When he campaigned for Mayor in 2007, Greg Ballard believed there was a disconnect between city leaders and the neighborhoods. Upon taking office, Mayor Greg Ballard has placed a high priority on the quality of life in our neighborhoods. He hired individuals to focus solely on listening to and responding to the concerns of neighborhood residents. Mayor Ballard is visible and accessible in the neighborhoods and hosts regular Mayor’s Night Out forums across the city to allow residents to come and speak directly with the Mayor and several City Department managers and personnel. Such forums are unprecedented and give each citizen the opportunity to have his/her voice heard.
