Community welfare is a direct result of private companies wanting to call Indianapolis home
Economic development is the financial lifeblood of our City. We have tremendous assets in the small, medium and large businesses that call Indianapolis home. We are an attractive community to businesses not yet here. But we must be aggressive in seeking out opportunities to tell our City’s story. And with the economy still suffering the effects of the worst downturn since the Great Depression, there is no room for error in our efforts.
In his first two years, Mayor Ballard’s administration has secured commitments from companies totaling over 20,000 retained or new jobs and almost $500,000,000 in capital investment. Our efforts have resulted in the first meaningful international economic development activities in the City’s history and an unprecedented coordination between our workforce and economic development infrastructures. And all of this has occurred while being more frugal with tax abatements than at any time in the last nine years. We continue to seek to help businesses grow, expand, relocate and, most importantly, hire employees. We have been successful to date, but the process never stops and Mayor Ballard and his team won’t either.
