Mayor Ballard Calls For COIT Reduction
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard announced today his proposal for a reduction in the County Option Income Tax (COIT). The plan, drafted in response to a recent Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) advisory, will go before the City-County Council on tonight. I often compare our city and the workings of government to a household. For too long, Indianapolis has been a household content to use credit cards to pay off debt. Last week's City-County Council vote to pass a balanced, comprehensive budget was a bold step that signals an end to the practice of borrowing against our future to fund today's operations, and I extend my sincere thanks to all who worked to bring this budget to fruition.

Mayors announce purchasing alliance
Several Central Indiana cities and towns are pooling their pocketbooks to save taxpayer money.
In a meeting Thursday morning, the group which consists of Mayors of Westfield, Noblesville, Beech Grove, and Indianapolis announced the new "Central Indiana Purchasing Alliance".
The goal is simple; Buy more, pay less for things like salt, road construction materials or fuel for vehicle fleets.
